New Land Rover Discovery 3.0 TDV6 Tuning

Step by step guide.

The first job is to locate and remove the ECU. On the latest Discovery 4’s this is located behind the battery under the bonnet on the passenger side of the vehicle. We need to first remove the battery to gain access, then undo the four 10mm nuts that hold the black plastic cooling fan and also the ECU in place.

Once you have released the ECU you need to then tilt forward slightly and remove the two plugs on top and then carefully remove from the compartment making sure not to disturb any wiring.

At this point if you have booked us to work on your vehicle at your location the following steps will be carried out. Alternatively if you haven’t arranged for us to come to you and would like to remove the ECU yourself and send to us via post, the next steps will also explain to you what we do.

7 small screws are removed carefully and then the ECU casing is gently warmed up to soften the sealant bonding used around the ecu and allow us easier access.

When we have warmed up the ECU sufficiently we then carefully remove the lid without making any marks which makes the finished job look as if no one has ever even been there.

With the lid removed and the ECU already identified we then look at our catalogue of diagrams which show’s us where to make the necessary connections to enable us to put the ecu into boot mode and bypass the tuning protection enabled in most modern EDC17 ECU’s

After carefully studying the diagrams we then solder the wires necessary making sure that connections are good we connect the power, ground, High and Low CAN wires to the necessary pins at the front of the ECU.

The connections are checked and double checked before we then power the ecu and read the data areas.

Once the data is read from the ECU we then modify it to the customer’s requirements.

The data is then re-written back to the ECU

Once the data is successfully written we begin to remove the connections and clean up all the pads that we have soldered onto making the job totally invisible.

The ECU then gets sealed back up using the same bonding as the OEM and screws refitted.

ECU then finally gets fitted back to vehicle or posted back to the customer to refit.
